11th INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION PRIZE SEM 2026

The evaluation process for the 11th International Composition Prize SEM 2026, promoted by Ensemble Serenissima APS of Sacile, has now been completed.

The International Jury has awarded the First Prize to the composition:

 

CURSUS ATALANTAE by Luís Cardoso (Portugal)

 

The work will receive its world premiere during the symphonic concert of the XXX FVG International Music Meeting, scheduled for 25 July 2026 at the Teatro Zancanaro in Sacile. The composition will receive a prize of €2,500 and will be published by Pizzicato Verlag Helvetia.

Ensemble Serenissima APS extends its heartfelt thanks to all the composers who took part in the competition, for the quality and variety of the works submitted, and to the International Jury for carrying out its work with expertise, care and responsibility.

A special note of gratitude is dedicated to M° Gilberto Bosco, for the valuable artistic and human contribution he offered to the competition over the years. for their commitment, expertise, and professionalism.

LUÍS DOS SANTOS CARDOSO (1974) - First Prize

He is a Portuguese composer, conductor, and researcher with a PhD in Music from the University of Aveiro. His catalogue comprises 155 original works and nearly one thousand arrangements, with premieres in Portugal, Japan, the Netherlands, the United States, and Brazil. His music has received multiple national and international distinctions, including two Harvey Phillips Awards for Excellence in Composition (ITEA, 2016 and 2021), the Silva Dionísio Composition Prize (2002), the Aveiro Composition Prize (2006), the II National Composition Prize of the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa (2011), and the Winds Composition Contest Saxony – III Prize (2007 and 2025). Several works were finalists in the Harvey G. Phillips Awards (2010, 2014) and the SPA Authors Prize (2014). He has received commissions from major institutions such as the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, the Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa, Gravíssimo! Festival, and the University of Coimbra. Cardoso is Artistic Director of the Orquestra Filarmónica 12 de Abril and is active as a lecturer and invited speaker in conferences and symposia dedicated to contemporary music and wind repertoire.
